left side neck pain causes
I have a ganlion cyst on the top of my left wrist, would it cause pain on left side of neck& shoulder?

The left side of my lower neck is painful down into my shoulder, are these two things related? Or is the neck thing coming from some nerve damage in my ankle??

A ganglion cyst won’t affect the neck and shoulder muscle. It rarely affects even the closest muscles to it, much less those a couple feet away.

Same thing with the ankle’s nerve damage.

The pain in your neck and shoulder is probably the result of a straining of those muscles themselves, not something going on elsewhere in your body.

The Neck Pain Handbook

The Neck Pain Handbook

$14.95

The Neck Pain Handbook discusses everything you need to know about neck pain, including its causes, how to treat it yourself, when it’s time to see a doctor, and what your doctor can do to help. Most importantly, it discusses how you can prevent neck pain, so that once your pain is gone, it stays gone. Neck pain is increasingly common as more of us work in offices that make it unnecessary to move from our computers and desks. Major topics discussed include a discussion of why the neck is one of the most common areas to develop pain as the result of our increasingly immobile lifestyle, and how pain is rooted in the neck’s complex anatomy and function. With this information, it becomes clear why the strategies for dealing with it are recommended. These include:. •the importance of good posture while sitting, standing, walking, and sleeping;. •setting up your workplace for optimal comfort and support, to prevent injury;. •a simple and effective 10-minute exercise program for your neck, including stretches and strength training, that will help to take away the pain and keep it from coming back;. •medical options when improving posture and simple exercises don’t help;. •a discussion of the symptoms that mean a physician should be consulted; and. •the approaches that will be used if medical intervention is needed. In addition, for the 10-20% of people with neck pain that does not respond to conservative therapy, the authors discuss in detail options such as medications, injections, and—rarely needed—surgery.

Low Back and Neck Pain

Low Back and Neck Pain

$21.95

By Paul C. Williams, Gaston Episcopal Hospital, Dallas, Texas. The purpose of this book is to point out the actual mechanical alterations of the spine which are the primary causes of low back and neck pain, and to minimize the false, prevalent idea that these are the result of mental anxiety or tension. It is written in lay terms so that it can be read and reread until the principles involved are understood. It would require almost one hour of the physician's time to explain this material, even in an abbreviated form. After the diagnosis has been made and explanation of the x-ray changes given, the doctor should be able to prescribe this publication and thereby gain the patient's full cooperation in following through with the postural positions and daily exercises as recommended.

Healing Joint Pain Naturally

Healing Joint Pain Naturally

$14.99

For the more than 43 million sufferers of arthritis and similar afflictions, a safe, effective, natural method for reversing such diseases without drugs or potentially harmful side effects. When veteran health writer Ellen Hodgson Brown found herself suffering from an arthritic hip so painful that sleep was almost impossible, she did not surrender to painkillers or replacement surgery. Instead, she undertook extensive investigation into natural remedies and schools of alternative medicine and devised an eclectic home protocol of fasting and nutritional healing. The result: the arthritis disappeared completely, leaving her feeling better than she had in years. In Healing Joint Pain Naturally , Brown shares what she’s learned in her journey to renewed wellness, in the process proving that the course of arthritis can be reversed. She first investigates the causes of joint disease, examining the roles of stress, poor nutrition, and energy blockage. She then covers the therapeutic possibilities of altered diet and detoxification; supplementation therapies of natural substances that offer safer pain relief without long-term side effects and that promote healing; and regulation therapies, ranging from exercise, massage, and chiropractic to chelation, homeopathy, and acupuncture. Her belief throughout is that healing is a natural process that can be promoted more by respecting the wisdom of the body than by waging war. Inspiring, wide-ranging, eclectic, Healing Joint Pain Naturally brings a message of hope and bodily renewal to millions who have resigned themselves to a life of pain.

Natural Causes

Natural Causes

A riveting work of investigative journalism that charts the rise of the dietary supplement craze and reveals the dangerous—and sometimes deadly—side of these highly popular and completely unregulated products. Over 60 percent of Americans buy and take herbal and dietary supplements for all sorts of reasons—to prevent illness (vitamin C), to ease depression (St. John’s wort), to aid weight loss (ephedra), to boost the memory (ginkgo biloba), and even to cure cancer (shark cartilage, bloodroot)—despite the fact that few of these “natural” supplements have been proven to be safe or effective. The vitamin and herbal supplement industry generates over $20 billion a year by selling products that promise to cure or fix, but are produced and marketed essentially without oversight. And while the media has been quick to sensationalize the benefits of supplements, few have taken a hard look at the dangers posed by many of the remedies flooding the market today. Award-winning journalist Dan Hurley breaks the silence for the first time in Natural Causes. From the snake-oil salesmen of the early twentieth century, to rise of the health food movement in the sixties and seventies, Hurley charts the remarkable growth of an industry built largely on fraud, and reveals the backroom politics that led to the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, which effectively freed the industry from FDA oversight. In unprecedented detail, he shows how supplement manufacturers have concealed the truth about dozens of untested treatments and the shocking rise in deaths, disfigurements, and life-threatening injuries caused by products deceptively promoted as “safe and natural.” Most importantly, he provides a telling look at why, in an age of unprecedented scientific advancement, we continue to buy and believe in remedies for which little evidence exists—and why the supplements we take to promote our health may be doing far more harm than good. As Hurley shows, the dietary supplement craze may be one of the greatest swindles ever perpetrated on the American public—one that feeds billions of dollars each year into the pockets of lobbyists, politicians, and any charlatan who wants to slap a label on a bottle and tout it as the next big “natural cure.” Blending hard facts with spellbinding personal stories, Natural Causes is a must-read for anyone who has ever popped a multivitamin or an herb, and provides a hard-hitting, frightening look at a cultural trend that is out of control.

The Pain Detective, Every Ache Tells a Story

The Pain Detective, Every Ache Tells a Story

$43.95

“Pain is everywhere and everyone is talking about it,” says Dr. Hillel Finestone, M.D., a researcher and rehabilitation specialist whose work has been featured in publications as diverse as The Lancet, and USA Today. The key to understanding causes and solutions for many apparently mysterious, recurring aches, he explains, lies in understanding the mind-body relationship and the “real meaning” behind symptoms with no immediately obvious cause. Taking the reader into several diagnostic sessions to illustrate what he sees as a “detective” process to find the source of pain, Finestone explains how psychological and social issues can influence health and healing, for better or worse. Low back and neck pain, fibromyalgia and even work related pains are delved into.In addition to vignettes that illustrate the ideas discussed and show dramatic incidences of how healing the mind can also heal the body, Finestone uses unique and useful diagrams which explain how mind and body are physiologically connected and reactive to each other. In these pages, readers can follow Dr, Finestone through patient sessions and understand, step by step, how the “pain detective” works to help his patientsand perhaps his readers, toofind lasting relief.

The Other Side of Pain

The Other Side of Pain

“As children growing up with our families, we have few choices about our circumstances. We depend on our parents and siblings to give us what we need, both emotionally and physically. Those who have happy, loving families often grow up and enjoy productive lives. For those like me who missed out on that good fortune, the road that leads into the future is not as easy to navigate. Adulthood is more difficult when we have present-day responsibilities to manage while searching for the means to cope with the burden of our unhappy childhood. The challenges of holding down a job, maintaining a happy marriage, and setting and achieving goals require more energy when we have lingering unhappiness from our painful memories. When we feel heartache or sorrow as children, when we endure hurtful experiences with others, we can either make those events the foundation of a life of destruction, or we can learn from them. We can allow pain to teach us about ourselves and about life. Whatever we do, we choose to do it. Destruction or instruction-the choice is up to us. Patrice Moya emerged from her childhood as a deeply wounded young woman. Yet it was through her suffering that she came to know the miraculous power of God. Patrice experienced the Lord’s merciful grace that sustained her through the darkness of her life and helped her re-claim her identity that became lost in her destructive childhood environment. Patrice is a Certified Life Purpose Coach and Life Plan Facilitator. For more information, visit www.empowermentforliving.net.”

Pain Management

Pain Management

$63.99

Conventional pharmaceutical approaches to pain management are not always successful. Using only those medications that have an official indication for a certain condition reduces substantially the chance of the patient gaining pain relief and may expose them to intolerable side effects . However evidence now exists on the use of other drugs, produced for non-pain conditions, and how they can substantially increase the chances of pain relief. Covering the most recent developments in this field, McCleane offers an alternative solution to pain treatment when conventional treatments fail. This pioneering book proposes evidence-based alternatives to current options in pain management, using well-grounded rationales for each given treatment. This book is an ideal reference for the specialist and non-specialist prescriber alike and for practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines. It provides the evidence required and treatment algorithms for readers to use the drugs appropriately and to explore the field if they wish.
